La Sierra Academy Counselor Arrested For Possession Of Child Pornography

According to The Sun website:

RIVERSIDE — A Riverside school counselor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing and distributing child pornography and planting a camera inside of a school restroom. Matthew Johnson of La Sierra Academy in Riverside has been arrested on suspicion of possession of images of minors in sex acts as well as sending and selling obscene materials of minors, authorities said Thursday.

Matthew Johnson, 30, of Loma Linda was in possession of more than 600 images of child pornography, Fontana police said.

Fontana police discovered Johnson “was downloading and distributing child pornography over the internet,” said Officer Daniel Romero, a department spokesman, in a statement.

After serving a search warrant on Wednesday at Johnson’s home in the 25200 block of Taylor Street, detectives “seized multiple electronic devices,” Romero said. “Evidence relating to the downloading and distribution of child pornography was located. Many of the images and videos depicted prepubescent boys.”

In an email Wednesday to parents, La Sierra Academy, which serves kindergartners to 12th graders at the Seventh-day Adventist school, said police also searched the school and the counselor had been fired.

“(On Wednesday) the Fontana Police Department executed a search warrant on the campus of La Sierra Academy, removing evidence from the office of Matthew Johnson, the campus counselor,” the email said. “The items seized related to the creation and possession of child pornography.

“We are shocked, horrified, and devastated by these developments,” the email said. “La Sierra Academy is cooperating fully with the joint investigation by the Fontana Police Department and the Riverside Police Department.”

In the email, the school urged parents with any information about the case to contact police, and said in some cases investigators might contact parents directly.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share this statement with you,” Principal Elizabeth Muñoz Beard wrote in a preface to the statement. The school has about 550 students.

Johnson was arrested Wednesday and remained in custody Thursday at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga with a bail amount of $100,000.

This sad story serves as a reminder to each of us to resolve sin issues from our hearts, before they lead to greater sins (Psalm 119:9-16). Please pray for any children that might have been violated by this man.

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy Word.  With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.  Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes” (Psalm 119:9—12).
