Regional Black Conferences Resolve to Push Women's Ordination

On November 13, five representatives from regional conferences participated in a livestream where they voiced their support and strategy for women’s ordination (WO). One of the participants was Kimberly Bulgin, a recently ordained woman on October 23. You may remember her for expressing strange ideas about sexuality on her blog.

The regional conferences believe that they can help force women’s ordination in the North American Division, treating it as a social justice issue. They call themselves the Office for Regional Conference Ministries.

  • They mention the words justice/injustice/fairness 12 times in the video.

  • They mention the word equality five times.

  • One of these individuals works in ‘religious liberty and public affairs‘ (one of the most liberal and political departments in the church). This department is headed up by Ganoune Diop at the General Conference.

  • They mention women/woman 68 times in the livestream.

  • The Bible is mentioned 6 times, mostly to point out that it is misunderstood by individuals that oppose WO.

  • The word damned is mentioned one time. Jeremiah Wright is also mentioned one time.

  • The word father is mentioned twice. Grandmother or mother or mom are mentioned 4 times. The word female is mentioned 31 times; the word male is mentioned 11 times.

  • Wife is mentioned 8 times. Discrimination is mentioned twice.

  • The term husband of one wife is mentioned 3 times to disparage the principle; once it is followed by “blah blah blah blah blah.”

  • “I think at some point we have to recognize this this is about right and wrong this is about justice and fairness and equality.”

  • One individual claims that the Seventh-day Adventist church in Africa—long opposed to WO—is softening up towards it.

  • Obedience is not mentioned at all in this livestream.
