This was one of those should-have-seen-it-coming moments. According to Forbes.com and The New York Post, On October 14, a team of researchers posted on bioRxiv a preprint that described how they had created a new hybrid version of the Covid-19 coronavirus in their lab at Boston University and used this lab-created virus to infect mice, which ended up killing 80% of the mice.
Professor Shmuel Shapira, a leading scientist in the Israeli Government, said: "This should be totally forbidden, it's playing with fire."
Senator Roger Marshall, MD, (R-Kansas) tweeted, “This research must stop immediately. It is unconscionable that NIH sponsors this lethal gain of function virus research through Boston University and EcoHealth Alliance in densely populated areas, creating potential to kill more people than any singular nuclear weapon.”
Researchers from Boston and Florida combined Omicron's most dangerous element, its spike protein, and combined it with that of the original Wuhan strain.
The virus uses the spike protein to latch on to and enter the cells it infects. Omicron's spike has dozens of mutations, making it particularly infectious.
When a group of mice were exposed to standard Omicron, they all survived and only experienced 'mild' symptoms. However, 80% of those exposed to this new hybrid strain perished.
Dr Ebright told DailyMail.com:
"The research is a clear example of gain of function research of concern and enhanced potential pandemic pathogen (ePPP) research.
"It is especially concerning that this new US-government ePPP research - like the previous US-government ePPP research on chimeric SARS-related coronaviruses at Wuhan Institute of Virology that may have caused the pandemic - appears not to have undergone the prior risk-benefit review mandated under US-government policies.
"If we are to avoid a next lab-generated pandemic, it is imperative that oversight of ePPP research be strengthened.”
This type of deadly experimentation is unconscionable. Like Dr. Jekyll creating Mr. Hyde, Godless humans are intent on creating something that will kill us. Gain of function, become loss of function. Science becomes murderous becomes suicidal.
Bottom line? Right up there with dropping a barbell in the swimming pool of humanity.
