As expected, many Adventist websites are discussing the upcoming 2025 GC Session, and asking legitimate questions about our balance of faith in this world. This poll is an effort to gather input from fellow church members on important issues. There will be a future poll with several additional questions. Please prayerfully consider your answers. Participants in the poll will be kept confidential.
In 1991, the Seventh-day Adventist General Conference organized and established the General Conference Administrative Committee (ADCOM). In theory, the purpose was to provide a streamlined way to handle administrative and operational matters for the church. In practice, ADCOM has provided a way for 58 people (46 members and 12 invitees) to oversee direction setting for the church, making statements that speak for the denomination without the input of church members.
Statements
To date, the General Conference has made 59 statements (7 prior to ADCOM, and 52 after). Many of the statements after 1986 align with United Nations goals — the 2015 Vaccine (immunization) Statement aligns with both the UN and the World Health Organization. In short, these statements seem to provide the General Conference with a way to be political, while, at the same time claiming to be apolitical.
Some of these statements are the 2015 Immunization Statement (which was weaponized against innocent church members during Covid), and the 1995 Climate Change Statement (which looks like it was written by Al Gore himself).
Ganoune Diop
Another poll question is regarding Ganoune Diop as the General Conference director of religious liberty. In the last ten years, Diop has (under the rubric of ‘public affairs’) championed a version of ecumenism between the Adventist church and numerous progressive denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church under Pope Francis. He also supported the 2021 Reaffirmation Statement which says that religious liberty objections to the government mandated Covid jab are not appropriate for church members. When questioned in September 2024 about his Covid vaccine support (video), he denied that the GC promoted the Covid jab.
In this same video, Diop also said that the Catholic church has changed, and we should be more charitable towards the papacy. The Great Controversy book says (page 571) that the Roman church never changes. Who do you believe?
I don’t know whose idea it was to bundle public affairs (usually political correctness) with religious liberty, but that has to be one of the top ten bad ideas in Adventist history. These two should absolutely be separated.
The United Nations
In 1985, the Seventh-day Adventist Church aligned with the United Nations as an NGO. This relationship gave the SDA church access to some funding from the United Nations, and included “the right to speak and submit written statements regarding issues of importance to the church.” This could explain why many of the 59 GC & ADCOM Statements appear to be in line with the United Nations’ goals. The United Nations is a secular organization that hailed a 1992 decision to put atheists on equal footing with believers. The UN's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included the work of Charles Darwin (who developed the theory of evolution) in its Memory of the World Register, recognizing its significance in understanding nature and humanity's place in it, according to UN News. This is antithetical to the Biblical record of divine Creation.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (which Ganoune Diop is promoting) acknowledge the role of evolution in maintaining ecosystem services and contributing to societal well-being, according to a study published in Wiley Online Library.
In our opinion, the United Nations is three parts corrupt and two parts incompetent. Do you support the Seventh-day Adventist Church administrators aligning your church with the United Nations and do you support those same administrators making ‘political’ statements on your behalf?
