LLU's Richard Hart: Christ Calls us to Celebrate Pride Month

Loma Linda University’s president, Richard H. Hart, writes a communiqué called “Notes from the President.” Sometimes the notes are published in LLU’s web page news section; other notes, it seems, are just emailed to a list of subscribers. In his most recent “note,” emailed out yesterday, Dr. Hart writes:

“We have just ended the month of June, designated as “Pride Month.” This is a societal attempt to recognize the lives of those who identify as LGBTQI. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact LGBTQI individuals have had on history and to acknowledge the prejudice and hate many have experienced. In addition, it is an opportunity for those who do not identify in this way to connect and support.

“When Loma Linda University Health participates in months of recognition, we are working to heal and restore relationships, as I believe Christ calls us to do. May each of us open our hearts to all those around us who are deserving and in need of this love and acceptance.”

This is the epitome of liberal religion, which, whatever it might be, is certainly not Christianity despite its appeals to Christ and what He would do.

Pride month is a celebration of a non-biblical lifestyle, an anti-biblical lifestyle. The message of pride month is that it is right, normal, and good for men to have sex with men, and women to have sex with women—and, more recently, for people to rebel against God’s sovereign choice of their sex, which is made at conception—notwithstanding the teachings of Judaism, Christianity, Islam and almost every other religious tradition throughout human history.

The message of pride month is that, instead of being ashamed of our misbehavior, we should boast about it and glory in it. Gay pride parades are often accompanied by the most reprehensible public displays imaginable, including full frontal male nakedness. Obviously, pride month is a blatant, in-your-face repudiation of Christianity, and a flouting of the norms of all monotheistic religions. If Richard Hart does not understand this, his discernment and judgment are damaged beyond repair, and he should not be associated with any Christian institution, much less a Seventh-day Adventist institution.

But then, is Loma Linda really a Christian institution? Not anymore. Not based upon what we’ve been hearing in recent years. The best that can said of Loma Linda is that it had a Christian founding and has a Christian heritage. And yet it is still classified as a General Conference-affiliated institution; General Conference President Ted Wilson is on its Board of Trustees, along with several other top Adventist officials, including GC Treasurer Paul H. Douglas, GC Secretary Erton Köhler, Assistant GC Treasurer Thomas Lemon, GC Director of Education Lisa Beardsley-Hardy, NAD president Alexander Bryant, Pacific Union President Bradford Newton, and Southwestern Union President Carlos Craig.

Browsing through LLU’s website, we find the same pushing of the vaccine that we would find anywhere else, and the same Marxist Diversity, Equity and Inclusion blather you would find anywhere else. How is Loma Linda University any different than it would be if it were run by the Presbyterians, the Episcopalians, the Unitarians, the Chamber of Commerce, or the Chinese Communist Party? What is the point of Loma Linda being a supposedly “Adventist” institution?

It seems that in order to cobble together a coalition that allows him to cling to the denominational presidency indefinitely, Elder Wilson has abandoned any pretense of attempting to reform any Adventist institution. This is power for its own sake, power for the sake of power, as opposed to power used wisely and judiciously to implement Scriptural policies and reforms under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“In the end they will be destroyed. Their own emotions are their god, and they take pride in the shameful things they do. Their minds are set on worldly things.” Philippians 3:19
