LGBTQ+ and our community - Update Part 2

What happened so far:
See Update Part 1 from September 7th, 2023

On September3, The Baden-Wurttemberg Conference sent a letter to the Board of Trustees of the Friedensau Theological College and to the South German Union Executive Committee (SDV):

 We request,

1) To publicly distance ourselves from the statement of Andreas Bochmann who has stated ("Therefore, the elements of partnership derived from Genesis 2:24 are also applicable to same-sex relationships.")

2) To make a public commitment to the Seventh-day Adventist position regarding the issue of "homosexuality."

What happened next?

On September 12th, 2023, the rectorate of the Friedensau Theological University published the following statement: https://tinyurl.com/4t9e8fxt

The association committee (SDV) will now decide on the BW Association's application (see update part 1) on October 1st, 2023.

On September 14, 2023, the Inter-European Division (EUD) published the following statement on “LGBTQ + and our community.” [It was very weak]

The current issue of Adventists Today (9/2023) promotes the book “queergedacht”. https://tinyurl.com/mtxrzjh4
An editor and co-author of this book is the current President of the Hanseatic Conference (Dennis Meier). In their foreword to this book, the current presidents of the two German associations (Unions) say the following:

“This book queergedacht with its well-researched articles addresses the issue (LGBTQ) in a pleasant and calm way. The subtitle formulates a legitimate concern: The contributions should offer an alternative, queer-friendly perspective for an open discussion within our free church." p. 9

What an "open discussion" within our free church should look like can be found on p. 379 in the afterword of the Read the editor:

“If you claim that the Bible condemns all same-sex relationships, you are told that it isn’t so clear in the Bible and are referred to the contents of this book (Queergedacht). Friends, we are currently experiencing a serious crisis in our Adventist church in Germany.”

Biblical boundaries regarding marriage are being pushed by people [in Germany]. I am often reminded of a statement that was made in the context of the crisis at Mount Carmel:

“If there is one sin that God abhors more than any other of which his people are guilty, it is doing nothing in an emergency. Indifference and neutrality in a religious crisis is viewed by God as a grave crime and amounts to the worst kind of enmity against God.” Ellen G. White 3T 280

For this reason, I encourage you not to remain neutral in this crisis, but to continue to stand kindly and clearly on the unchanging and unequivocal moral principles of God's Word.

Our Commentary

  • The faithful Baden-Wurttemberg Conference publicly rejected the statement of Andreas Bochmann who said "Therefore, the elements of partnership derived from Genesis 2:24 are also applicable to same-sex relationships."

  • Friedensau Theological University responded by defending Andreas Bochmann’s torturous theological argument in support of gay marriage. They seek to give LGBTQ+ people “space in our communities.” Bochmann works at Friedensau as a professor and vice-president.

  • The Hanseatic Conference is the conference that is protecting the bi-sexual pastor in northern Germany ( Sasa Gunjevic). Their president has spoken at pro-LGBTQ+ Kinship meetings.

  • The North German Union is protecting the Hanseatic Conference who is protecting the bi-sexual pastor. The Inter-European Division recently issued a statement regarding the pro LGBTQ juggernaut in SDA Germany. The statement was very weak and “called for more dialogue.”

  • This is what liberalism often does.  For politically-minded liberals, the highest point of political maneuvering is not doing anything about a problem, it's not fixing anything, it's not achieving a concrete objective, it's just having endless conversations. Beware the endless conversation, or dialogue.
