Well, folks, grab your popcorn. It’s Friday night. The Sabbath is approaching and Washington DC just turned a simple museum proposal into the latest episode of “Who’s Afraid of Basic Biology?”
Monday’s headline had me chuckling all the way to a roofing job. The long-planned Smithsonian Women’s History Museum on the National Mall? Officially stalled. Why? Because House Democrats decided they’d rather kill the whole project than admit what a woman actually is. Here’s the plot twist nobody saw coming… or, honestly, everyone saw coming on our side of the fence.
Just days ago, The Washington Post reported that the bill — which had been cruising along with more than 230 co-sponsors — hit a brick wall. Republicans, led by Rep. Mary E. Miller of Illinois, slipped in what Democrats dubbed a “poison pill”: language requiring the museum to focus on biological women. You know, adult human females. Super radical idea.
Democrats lost their minds.
“It was a simple bill. You ruined it with your trans obsession and your culture wars,” Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez, a Democrat from New Mexico and chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus, said earlier in the week. This is the same person (can’t say woman) who said “Women deserve to tell our own story!” — while simultaneously refusing to define who or what “women” are.
The Democratic Women’s Caucus apparently worked overtime to block anything that might give conservatives or, heaven forbid—biology—any say in the matter. Translation: They’d rather have no women’s museum at all than a women’s museum that excludes men pretending to be women.
Let that sink in. Two months ago this thing looked like a done deal. Now? Dead in the water.
Because when rational people said, “Hey, maybe the Women’s History Museum should actually be about women,” liberal politicians threw a fit.
Let’s be real. This isn’t just about a museum. It’s about axiological rebellion against the Lord’s creation order. As the Washington Times editorial board put it, House Democrats killed the bill to protect transgender ideology… and in doing so, handed conservatives a clean win.
80% of Americans still think women are, well, women. Hopefully 100% of church members think this (although I’m not too sure about Walla Walla, La Sierra, Andrews, and parts of Southern). But the Democratic Party is so locked in to the gender revolution that it can’t even pretend otherwise, even when it costs them a shiny new museum on the National Mall. They can’t answer a simple question that my sons answered at age 4.
So for now, the Smithsonian Women’s History Museum sits in legislative limbo — a $500 million symbol of our cultural moment, and the reasoning process of gender-fluid insanity. Partisan lefties would rather torch the whole idea than admit biological reality.
As for me and my (SDA) house, we—like Plutarch—still call a spade a spade, figs, figs, and a woman a woman. They are adult female humans. They were created by God as a helpmeet (Genesis 2:18). They are our wives, mothers, sisters and daughters, and they are a special part of our lives.
