October 7th is the date for Extinction Rebellion, a climate uprising. It started this morning in countries around the world. Protests by climate change activists are expected in some 60 cities over the next two weeks.
What do they want?
Extinction Rebellion (XR for short) wants governments to declare a "climate and ecological emergency" and take immediate action to address climate change. It describes itself as an international "civil disobedience activist movement". They want governments to take immediate and drastic action to address climate change. Today begins a two-week long “rebellion” in over 60 sixty cities worldwide.
"We have tried petitions, lobbying and marches, and now time is running out," Australian activist Jane Morton told the AFP news agency.
"We have no choice but to rebel until our government declares a climate and ecological emergency and takes the action that is required to save us."
Green Prophecy
For decades, climate alarmists have set dates for ecological disaster. They seem to be trying to outdo each other in their claims:
On December 14, 2008, former presidential candidate Al Gore predicted the North Polar Ice Cap would be completely ice free in five years. As reported on WUWT, Gore made the prediction to a German TV audience at the COP15 Climate Conference.
“The earth is spinning out of control” (Ward Kennedy II, professor – Rutgers University).
“Global Warming will cause prostitution and sex trafficking” (California Democrat Barbara Lee – April 30, 2013).
“By 1999 the U.S. population will have declined to 22.6 million” (Paul Ehrich, 1968).
“Not stopping CAGW will be catastrophic. We‘ll be eight degrees hotter in ten, not ten but 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow! Most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals (Ted Turner, 2008).
Do you remember the good old days when we had "12 years to save the planet"? (think Green New Deal) Now it seems, there's a new claim that the next 18 months will be critical in dealing with the global heating crisis, among other environmental challenges. The claim is that decisive, political steps to enable the cuts in carbon to take place will have to happen before the end of next year (2020).
“Global warming will cause giant boulders to leap out of the ocean floor onto dry ground” (James Hansen, 2015).
What else is happening in 2020? The Pope is summoning world leaders to the Vatican to sign a “Global Pact on Education.”
Arrests
So the protests/riots/rebellion/sit-ins began today. And the protesters are getting more and more disruptive.
Numerous people were arrested in Sydney for blocking a road.
Hundreds were arrested in Amsterdam.
A couple hundred activists were arrested in London, with organizers vowing to shut down key sites in the city including the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square. Demonstrators occupying the Lambeth Bridge practiced yoga.
Dozens were arrested in New York for showering the Wall Street Bull in fake blood.
These frenzied people are not calling for Sunday observance at this time, but the spirit of fear within them appears to be a foreshadowing of the unholy global passion in the Time of the End.
“By false representations and angry appeals, they will stir up the passions of the people…. To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for a Sunday law. By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness....” LDE 132.4
“The people of God will then be plunged into those scenes of affliction and distress described by the prophet as the time of Jacob's trouble” (GC 615).
