Oakwood University Updates Dress Code Standards For Students

Dear Oakwood Family,

As we eagerly prepare to welcome our students back to campus for the 2025–2026 academic year, we are excited for the opportunities this new season brings. To our new students—welcome to the beginning of your Oakwood journey! Our heartfelt prayer is that each student, faculty, staff member, and administrator experience a year marked by love, growth, and success beyond anything we could ask or imagine.

As we strive to maintain a campus environment that reflects our spiritual values and professional standards, we want to inform you of updates to our Student Handbook, which will take immediate effect. Revisions are being made to the current edition, which are reflected in this document. Please take a moment to carefully review the key highlights below:

Jewelry-Free Campus Policy

Standards of Dress

Dress Code Policy Implementation

  • This dress code will be enforced consistently throughout all university spaces—classrooms, worship settings, recreational areas, open-air spaces, and during university-sponsored off-campus activities.

  • Faculty and staff are also expected to serve as role models by adhering to the same standards.

To the faculty and leaders of Oakwood University, we salute you for reinforcing these biblical standards. Well done, brethren.

“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious” (1 Peter 3:3-4).

“Let all things be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40).
