The Do Good Club

December 19, 2023 Rey Chavez

“But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).

Sometimes the phrase “Out of the mouth of children” is used when something significant is said by a young child.  Usually it is something that nobody saw coming.

Another saying that is taught and repeated is that kids should be seen but not heard.  Anyone who knows young Malachi Rey Chavez would know that he never stays silent.  Even while this young chatter box is talking, he somehow listens as well.

One day, his Aunty Betty was explaining to his parents, about a lady she works with.  This lady was in need of chemo treatments, and Malachi’s parents were asked if they would pray for her.  Malachi’s mom, who has a heart of Gold and always wants to help others, reminded Malachi of a story she read to him and his siblings.  It was a Bedtime story about a group of kids who wanted to do good, and keep it quiet so nobody knew who was doing it.  They even gave themselves a name, The Do Good Club.

Malachi’s aunty Betty told them that one way the lady can pay for chemo treatments was if she can collect plastic bottle tops.  Malachi’s parents looked confused but Aunty Betty explained that a deal was set up for the lady that for every 1,000 plastic bottle caps collected. She would get 1 free chemo treatment.  So Malachi, wanting to help said  “Lets help her.”

Thus began The Do Good Club.

Now Malachi and his parents have not yet met this lady, and she has no idea what Malachi and his family are doing.  After starting the club in July 2023, Malachi has now collected 12000 caps. This means the lady will now be able to have twelve free chemo treatments.  Around the house Malachi was collecting lids everywhere he could.  He even enlisted the help of some of the members at church to help with his collection.  Thanks to Aunty Betty, everyone at this year’s VBS all donated all their caps that were used from any bottle at the event.

While we don’t know this lady, one thing we do know is that what has been collected so far will help with her treatment.  Another thing I do know for sure is that if Malachi is able to meet this lady, he will share with her how God loves her and this is one way to show her how much God loves her.  Usually we expect the adults to do the witnessing.

But this 5 year old can’t wait; he wants to tell everyone about Jesus.

****

UPDATE:
Malachi met alisa and she was very grateful and broke down crying when Malachi told her that Jesus loves her. Thanks to the help of members at the
Los Ranchos SDA church members and one Home Depot store and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center and a Christian academy and the help of others we have been able to raise 12000 caps and counting.

This letter reaffirms the world church’s biblical teaching on human sexuality and created identity. More importantly, it warns that some Adventist schools have accommodated unbiblical views, and rightly states that the Conference cannot encourage families to send youth to such schools.
