Oakwood Director of Leadership Says Charlie Kirk Assassination Was 'Blessing in Disguise'

Jesse Wilson Jr. is the Director: Bradford,Cleveland,Brooks Leadership Center at Oakwood University. Today, he posted this article on social media:

While historical lessons are important, the relentless harping about something that occurred 80+ years ago overshadows contemporary challenges and opportunities, leaving many church members feeling trapped in a narrative of perpetual victimhood. This fixation risks alienating younger generations who seek to navigate a complex, modern world with Christian grace and maturity, rather than being anchored to grievances of a bygone era.

Observations

  • Wilson says they were saying these things in private (murmuring), and the murder of Charlie Kirk motivated them to say these things (clamor) in public (Deut. 1:26-27; Ephesians 4:31).

  • Wilson says he is “Kirked out.” Possibly he misspelled smirked. Not sure.

  • According to Wilson’s public post, offering public sympathy for a man’s assassination is disappointing but not surprising. This is a shot at Finley, Batchelor, and maybe Danny Shelton. Wilson doesn’t mention names.

  • Redirect tithe offerings? Isn’t that what Conrad Vine was accused of? Will Micheff and the GC ban Wilson for this suggestion?

  • Wilson calls for anti-racism (critical race theory) training for the NAD and Amazing Facts. Maybe Ibram X Kendi is available. The NAD would probably like Kendi or Joy Reid, or this woman. Amazing Facts is probably like “Thanks, but no thanks.”

  • By going after Amazing Facts, these people are essentially saying critical race theory is more important to them than our Adventist mission. Not a good look for a movement tasked with sharing the Three Angels’ messages.

  • Wilson is calling for black conferences or members to boycott the GC and NAD if they allow speakers they don’t approve of. Kind of a CRT cancel culture.
