Southern University put up three bronze colored statues to simulate jogging with Jesus, or “Fit For Eternity.”
The Cool
Some people remarked, upon seeing the statues “That’s cool.”
Yes, ‘The Cool’ was exactly what the University was shooting for by erecting these statues. Ya gotta be cool.
But, the Cool isn’t always cool—some thoughts about the Cool.
Tying to be cool, as a goal, forces you to ignore lessons ingrained by the Bible and the people who made you.
The Cool needs recruits to survive. Colleges and universities are home central for this recruitment. Their strategy: Convince you that you won’t be cool if you don’t do what they say.
Some of the worst cities in America are filled with people who said “Yes” to everything. Dear ones. it’s cool to say no to bad things.
When the “Cool” tries to override your common sense—slam the door permanently.
To the world, tithing is uncool. So is keeping the Sabbath and being happily married for 40 years to a person of the opposite sex.
The Cool is a bad thing. It’s a value-removal machine. It creates champions for reverse achievement.
Motion pictures and music try to separate children from their moral warning system. Not cool.
True Cool is Hard work (Colossians 1:10; Ecclesiastes 5:12). Biblical morals (Exodus 20). True Cool achieves greatness without caring about impressing others (Philippians 2:3-4). Honesty (Proverbs 12:22; Colossians 3:9) Fidelity to principle (2 Timothy 2:15).
So, Southern University has these new statues. We are not really criticizing them, but we are taking the opportunity to warn all of us about trying to be ‘Cool.’
Watch for a new article titled “The Cool !”
And stay warm.
