A fire broke out in the former Seventh Day Adventist church building on Oakes Street in Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026. Firemen battled the blaze into the late morning hours on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026.
The building was constructed in 1894, according to the Grand Rapids City Archives and Records Center. It had striking architecture.
Shattered windows and a collapsed roof were among the visible signs of damage from an hours-long fire caused to the former Seventh Day Adventist building.
Apparently, there have been multiple church fires this year, prompting some people to suspect arson. No word on the cause of this fire, yet.
