Romans 1 is an incredible theological analysis of our current cultural pardigm. Three times in Romans 1, after describing the ideology of pagan rebellion, God says He “Gave them over” (vv. 24, 26, 28). To be ‘given over’ to a reprobate mind means you have a mind that does not function—that’s what the Greek means.
What I am saying is this is the fulfillment of divine judgment in Romans 1. This is not reversible. It is the final resting place of rebellion.
Ever since Babel . . . God’s peculiar mark of judgment on rebellion is spiritual, ethical and sexual confusion. There is no coming back from that. The sexual revolution in 1970 through 1980 was the beginning of God’s divine judgment as He gave them over to a reprobate mind. It’s even worse today.
“Settled rebellion is incurable. It first originated in heaven with the angel next highest in order to Jesus Christ. This exalted angel had sympathizers who joined him in his rebellion. He, Satan, the great rebel, was turned out of heaven, and all his rebel sympathizers shared his fate. Since then it has been his special work to excite to rebellion all he can gain control over. Said the angel, “Rebellion will occur up to the time of the closing of the work of the third angel’s message” (CTr 115.3).
As stated, to be given over to a reprobate mind means you have a mind that does not function—that’s what the Greek means in Romans 1:28.
It is God’s divine judgment.
