Andrews University Planning Ahead 50 Years, Buries Time Capsule For 2075

April 11, 2025 NewsHound

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. -- Students and faculty at Andrews University buried a time capsule on campus Tuesday, which is set to be opened in the year 2075.

The capsule contains items that represent life for university students/staff and the Berrien Springs community as it is now in 2025.

The box contained a number of books and signed programs, as well as a COVID-19 mask, signifying the resilience the community showed while getting through the pandemic.

Organizers hope the capsule is a good representation of the current community and a reminder for our future selves that furthering education and perseverance is key.

The Story

Observations

Why is this big news? It isn’t, really. But it does give insight into the mindset of many/most of our educational and healthcare institutions.

Progressives are good at playing the long game. They often make plans many years in advance, changing institutions incrementally. Two things:

  • You can’t reform an institution incrementally; you can’t go from bad to good in lots of small steps. You can go from good to bad incrementally, that happens all the time—many of our left-leaning schools are exhibit ‘A’of that process. But reforming an institution has to be done in a major (often destructive) way, clearing out the dead wood, uprooting bad actors embedded in the system, and starting over with a renewed sense of biblical purpose and mission for God.

  • Most of them don’t believe that Jesus the Christ is coming back soon, that’s why they play the long game.

I don’t know if I’ll be here in 2075 (the odds are against it) but I have two hopes.

  • I hope the Lord has returned before then, and those from the first resurrection are reviewing the books in Heaven and throwing our crowns at His feet (Revelation 4:6-11; 20:5-6; 1 Corinthians 6:2).

  • I hope that time capsule melts with fervent heat (2 Peter 3:10).

****

“But if that evil servant should say in his heart, 'My lord is delaying his coming . .” (Matthew 24:48).
