2015 Immunization Statement Altered on GC Website

July 4, 2025 Gerry Wagoner

Something interesting just happened.

Since April, 15, 2015, the much maligned General Conference Vaccine Statement was on the GC website for the world to see. It reads thus:

“April 15, 2015 Immunization Statement

The Seventh-day Adventist Church places strong emphasis on health and well-being. The Adventist health emphasis is based on biblical revelation, the inspired writing of E.G. White (co-founder of the Church), and on peer-reviewed scientific literature.  As such, we encourage responsible immunization/vaccination, and have no religious or faith-based reason not to encourage our adherents to responsibly participate in protective and preventive immunization programs.  We value the health and safety of the population, which includes the maintenance of “herd immunity.”

We are not the conscience of the individual church member, and recognize individual choices.  These are exercised by the individual.  The choice not to be immunized is not and should not be seen as the dogma nor the doctrine of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

This statement was voted by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Administrative Committee in Silver Spring, Maryland, April 15, 2015.”

Apparently the language of the 2015 Statement has now been altered. Notice the changed statement here:

The change was noticed late night:

The 2015 Statement has been a source of significant controversy within the SDA church. Over 100 churches and 2 conferences and one union voted to remove the peer reviewed scientific literature clause over the last 3-4 years. The statement read this way for over 10-years:

“The Adventist health emphasis is based on biblical revelation, the inspired writing of E.G. White (co-founder of the Church), and on peer-reviewed scientific literature.”

The words “informed by” and “health” literature were just added. The changed statement:

“The Adventist health emphasis is based on the Bible, the inspired writings of Church co-founder Ellen G White, and is informed by peer-reviewed scientific health literature.”

Notice this December 22, 2020 Adventist Health Ministries page.

According to Ted Wilson, the official GC website that contained the 2015 Statement was a typo for ten years. Oh, come on. Really?

LINK.

Questions. When was the Statement changed? Why was it changed?

****

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
