Erton Kohler Elected President of Seventh-day Adventist Church

In a move that surprised only a few, Erton Kohler was nominated for president by the nominating committee today. He was later confirmed by a vote of 1721 to 188.

Who is Erton Kohler?

  • First off, he has a cool name. It rolls off the tongue.

  • My only interaction with Kohler so far is riding in a elevator with him in 2022. We exchanged pleasantries, and asked how each other were. I replied “I am better than I deserve..” He replied, with a bit of humor “I have no way to verify that.”

  • He was born in southern Brazil, as a generational Adventist. He is 55 years old, the first GC president that is younger than I am (scary).

  • Köhler is married to Adriene Marques, a nurse, and the couple has two children (pictured above).

  • He pastored from 1990-1994 in São Paulo.

  • He was the South American Division President from 2007 to 2021.

  • It was observed today that he is the first GC president to wear a wedding ring.

  • South American culture is said to lean authoritarian in leadership. Time will if that is the model of the new president.

  • Have a blessed Sabbath!

  • Ps. There are 2809 delegates. Where are they? Vote totals the last two days hovered around 1900-2000. Maybe we should look for them..
