The Rainbow Reclaimed: MLB Pitchers Expose the Incompatibility of Biblical Faith and the LGBTQ Agenda

June 21, 2026 NewsHound

SAN FRANCISCO—In a city long celebrated as a bastion of progressive activism, three San Francisco Giants pitchers quietly but unmistakably drew a line in the sand. On Pride Night, June 12, 2026, starter Landen Roupp and relievers J.T. Brubaker and Ryan Walker took the field wearing the team’s rainbow-themed caps—but with the inscription “Genesis 9:12-16” written across them. The verse recounts God’s covenant with Noah after the flood, establishing the rainbow as the sign of His promise never again to destroy the earth with water.

This was no casual gesture. It was a deliberate reclamation of a symbol that the LGBTQ movement has spent decades redefining for its own purposes.

The rainbow in Scripture speaks of divine mercy, judgment on sin, and God’s faithfulness to His created order. The modern Pride movement has turned it into a banner for sexual and gender ideologies that directly contradict that order.

Major League Baseball responded with predictable speed, issuing warnings to the players for “altering uniforms.” The contrast with the league’s long tolerance—and frequent celebration—of other ideological messaging could not be clearer.

When biblical truth is asserted, uniform rules are suddenly enforced. When progressive causes are promoted, the same rules bend or disappear. This incident is a striking illustration of the ideological battle between biblical morality and the LGBTQ agenda. The two are not complementary visions that can be blended with enough good intentions.

Biblical morality holds that God created humanity male and female, established marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman, and calls His people to sexual purity within that covenant. The LGBTQ agenda, by contrast, elevates self-defined identity and desire above any transcendent standard, demanding affirmation and often punishing dissent. These positions rest on fundamentally different foundations—one on the unchanging Word of God, the other on the fluid claims of autonomous self-expression. They cannot occupy the same ground without one eventually displacing the other.

This episode also functions as a much-needed wakeup call to lukewarm professed Christians who believe they can support the LGBTQ array while remaining faithful to Christ. Or, closer to home, we cannot celebrate homosexual graduations and LGBTQ+ and still claim to be true to the Scriptures. It’s one or the other.

Many have convinced themselves that “love” requires moral accommodation, that reinterpreting Scripture or remaining silent on these issues allows them to keep one foot in the church and one in the culture. Scripture offers no such option.

Jesus warned that no one can serve two masters. Supporting events, policies, and movements that celebrate what the Bible calls sin is not neutral compassion; it is compromise that erodes the authority of God’s Word. We live in an increasingly neo-pagan culture that treats biblical convictions about sexuality as bigotry while enshrining contrary beliefs as unquestionable orthodoxy. The pressure to conform will only intensify. The Giants pitchers’ simple act of writing Scripture on their caps reminds every believer that the rainbow still belongs to God. It is His sign, not the property of any ideological movement. The collision course is real. One worldview will have to yield.

World-loving Adventist ‘Christians’ must decide now whether they will stand with the unchanging truth of Scripture or accommodate the spirit of the age. There is no safe middle ground. The choice is before us, and eternity hangs in the balance.

“For this reason, God gave them over to dishonorable passions. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. Likewise, the men abandoned natural relations with women and burned with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error” (Romans 1:26-27).
