Danny Shelton's message "Is Social Justice a Counterfeit Gospel?" (delivered yesterday at the 3ABN camp meeting ) points out how social justice, diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), race, and politics have infiltrated and displaced the true gospel of Jesus Christ in the church, particularly among Seventh-day Adventists. We believe this is an important message,
Starting around the 48-minute mark (in the roughly 2-hour talk), Shelton stresses that the early church transformed the world through bold proclamation of Christ, but today's church has been reshaped by worldly compromises. True unity comes only through the gospel, not cultural or political agendas.
Shelton contrasts the true gospel—salvation by grace through faith in Christ's atoning sacrifice, obedience to God's commandments (including the Sabbath), repentance, and preparation for His soon return—with a "counterfeit" that prioritizes human-defined justice. He criticizes how some church leaders and members spend more energy on social justice, DEI initiatives, and political activism (often aligned with "lawless, godless left Democrats") than on spreading Christ's saving power. These efforts, while sounding compassionate, foster division, mob mentality, and spiritual distraction, echoing how the crowd chose Barabbas over Jesus.
He warns against spiritual arrogance: Adventists claim remnant status and possess unique truths (like the three angels' messages) yet tolerate or affirm open sin, such as compromise on abortion or LGBTQ issues, while claiming moral high ground.
Politics influences believers more than "thus saith the Lord," leading to a compromised, Laodicean state where Satan infiltrates from within. The devil exploits these distractions to prevent the Holy Spirit's outpouring needed for a purified, triumphant remnant.
He calls for self-examination, Scripture memorization, fervent prayer, and a return to Bible truth over human ideologies. The church must reject worldly "choices" that dilute the gospel and instead embrace wholehearted obedience. Only then can it fulfill its end-time mission. He urges listeners to be part of the victorious remnant, not the deceived, militant church.
