Cryston Josiah, president of the Central States Conference (regional) issued a statement on September 12 decrying “murder, hate speech, racism, sexism, and all other forms of discrimination.” Presumably this was in response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, although racism, sexism, and hate speech etc are non-sequitur to the assassination.
Today the CSC issued a statement about “Adventist Leaders” who responded to Charlie Kirk’s death. Apparently, these regional conference leaders are unhappy with 3ABN and Doug Batchelor’s response to the assassination. Weird..
This above statement sounds like a veiled threat of possible cancel culture against these ministries. Hopefully, Josiah or the CSC will clarify this odd post.
The statement also implies that Kirk reaped what he sowed because he was insufficiently opposed to the Second Amendment,
The statement is also spiritual because Paul emphatically says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Consequently, if Christian and public leaders are sowing seeds of discord, division, discrimination, and dismissiveness to destructive vices, including gun violence, then based on this scriptural reference, we as a people and a nation will indeed reap what we have been sowing. Unfortunately, and sadly, the evidence is speaking for itself.
Perhaps the CSC can clarify what they mean in this vague but accusing statement,
In addition, we are very disappointed and disturbed that there are Christian leaders within our own denomination who have fully embraced public figures that hold Christian nationalistic, racist, xenophobic, sexist, and other discriminatory ideologies.
Please name Seventh-day Adventists who embrace racism, Christian nationalism, sexism and xenophobia, by themselves or vicariously through other individuals. This vague accusation is unsupported by facts and laced with conjecture/opinion.
Maybe they are referring to Ben Carson? Here’s an older post by Josiah that was sent to us today,
The death of Charlie Kirk has brought a wide range of responses from Seventh-day Adventist church members. These responses range from sorrow over his killing to glee or relief that his voice is silenced.
Fortunately, most SDA’s have expressed heartfelt condemnation of the assassination and compassion for the surviving family, while others appear to be marinated in partisan contempt for the biblical principles that Kirk stood for and eloquently defended.
The Bible says to mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15) and rejoice not when your enemy falls (Proverbs 24:17). Let us by God’s grace honor Him by demonstrating compassion for a life cut short, and condemnation those who murder (Galatians 5:19-21).
