SAN FRANCISCO -- A three-alarm fire that broke out in a San Francisco church on Monday afternoon has been contained, the Fire Department said.
Crews responded to the fire at the Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 2889 California St. at about 2 p.m.
A shelter-in-place order was initially issued for several blocks on California Street as well as one block of Divisadero Street, but the order was lifted Monday evening. Two nearby homes were also evacuated but that order has also been lifted, officials said.
The church had been undergoing construction, but it is not known at this time if that contributed to the fire. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
By 10 p.m. the fire had been contained, though the scene will remain active through the night as firefighters watch for flare-ups or other rekindling.
No one was injured and no one has been permanently displaced, the Fire Department said.
